Dealing with temper tantrums is rough! I've been there, countless numbers of times.
From the toddler classroom, to the two year old room, to the three year old room, to the kindergartners, to the ASD classroom, and right into my own home. I've been there, I am there!
That's just where our children are. 87% 18 months old to 24 month-olds will have tantrums. That number increases to 91% when they turn 30 months (2 1/2), and then again decreases to 59% when they turn 42 months (3 1/2)! You know what that means? It means you don't have to lose your lid. It means you don't have to spank because this is developmental not disrespectful. All of their peers are dealing with the same thing. Let's practice #SkillsOverSpankings and give them what they need so they can be a part of the 41% not having tantrums.
Even if you are out of toddlerhood, you may have an older child who is having trouble accepting no, this method works well with them, too! I use this approach in all high stress communicative situations.
I call it the P.E.A.C.H. method (for obvious reasons, haha), but the steps are the real deal! Pause, evaluate, attend, communicate, and hug it out!
