Week of the Young Child is right around the corner!
When I worked in child care, this was my favorite event to celebrate (right after teacher appreciation week that is, haha!). Every single week in my classroom was a vibe but there was always something a little extra special about the energy this week.
I truly believe it was so special because all of the teachers collaborated on activities more, but more importantly, the PARENTS were more active on this week than any other week. This is the week that many schools will have field day--so you know the kids are super excited to play all day. It essentially feels like homecoming week but for early childhood and early elementary school kids.
The first Week of the Young Child was in 1971 and 52 years later they are still going strong. The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) came up with this campaign to highlight the services and programs for early education and to encourage families to get moving and have a healthy lifestyle through music, food, and art. This years celebration begins April 1-7.
Every day there is a special event to celebrate (WOYC). The celebration starts with music Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Work Together Wednesday, Artsy Thursday, and then Family Friday. For more information on these events, click here.
I hope you decide to celebrate the young child in your life and have fun this week!
